Rainbow’s Reprise (pronounced “repreese”)
Today I saw a rainbow.
Or perhaps, it saw me.
Sorrowfully dazed,
we sung the Rainbow’s Reprise —
red in vexation, aloud I screamed:
"How much longer must I foolishly dream?
How much more shall I tear apart
myself to find why he refuses my heart?"
Orange as the sun in yellow beam,
I remembered his face in my dream.
I remembered his hand firmly clasping mine,
and the lavender fields his embrace transported me, at times.
Then enviously green, I’d open my eyes —
jealous of my own happiness
in imagined lies.
Bewilderedly blue, I longed for the sea —
indigo in its devotion,
like to him is me.
Violet my face, I wiped to ease
my soul from singing
the Rainbow’s Reprise.
